A neurological condition is any condition that affects the brain, brainstem, spinal cord and/or peripheral neurological structures. Neurological conditions could be the result of a single event (like a stroke or a spinal cord injury) or they could be progressive in nature (like multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's disease).
The Neuro Hub offers rehabilitation services to adolescents and adults with a range of neurological conditions including (but not limited to):
- Traumatic and acquired brain injury
- Cerebrovascular injury (Stroke)
- Functional neurological disorders
- Parkinson's Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Brain and spinal tumours
- Spinal cord injuries
This is dependent on each neurological condition and each client. The timeline of rehabilitation and the intensity of rehabilitation depends on whether the condition has arisen from a single event or is progressive in nature. On assessment, your therapist will make recommendations on the amount of therapy you may need.
Sessions are normally 1 hour in duration and you may have sessions once or twice a week , alternative weeks or monthly, depending on your needs.
A neuro rehabilitation program identifies a client's needs and sets realistic goals to address these needs. This will be based on your initial assessment and interview
A neuro rehabilitation program requires a team approach to ensure you are receiving holistic treatment and can be inclusive of:
- Client and family education
- Physical rehabilitation
- Cognitive rehabilitation
- Psychological wellness
- Speech and language rehabilitation
- Social reintegration
- Participation in daily activities
